Singer Molly Johnson and guitarist/songwriter Norman Orenstein have maintained a longtime musical freindship dating back to their high school days. In the 80’s they formed the art/rock band Alta Moda,
eventually releasing an album on Sony Records and garnering a hit single “Julian”. After Alta Moda’s demise they continued writing with thoughts of other artists in mind. Several tunes seemed appropriate for Ital-Canadian teen sensation Candi so a demo tape was submitted to the artist's record label IRS. Paul Orescan at the label was already a fan of Alta Moda and forwarded the songs to head office president Miles Copeland who was impressed enough to sign them to an 8 album deal.
Orenstein produced their self-titled debut ‘The Infidels’, which was essentially just him, Molly Johnson and a group of established musical friends that include bassist Etric Lyons (Alta Moda) and Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar), drummer Randy Cooke (Lee Aaron), keyboard player Glen Morrow (Chris DeBurgh, Chester), The Armin Quartet, and vocalists Billy Newton-Davis, Cindy Matthews, and Taborah Johnson.
Diversity best describe The Infidels music. The songs run the musical spectrum incorporating hard rock, funky grooves and lush ballads. “Because our music is derived from such a broad base its hard to categorize it. We try to challenge and break boundries…That’s why we’re called The Infidels”
